Quicklinking

Just a few quick links for you all on a rather slow Monday.

  • Jeff Vogel has open-sourced the Blades of Exile code. Definitely worth taking a look over it if you’re an aspiring game developer and want to see what a complete indie game looks like.
  • Over at Rampant Coyote, you can read about Frayed Knights, the game he’s “developing in public.” Seems like an interesting project and it’s definitely getting the attention it needs.
  • Viridian Games has a rather humorous post about his game’s “involuntary makeover.” Check it out, have a laugh, and then take a serious look at his game’s progress. It’s coming along quite nicely.
  • From the Game Producer angle, take a look at GameProducer’s article on Halo 3’s release strategy and how you can learn from it.
  • Lastly, if you want a little inspiration from a fellow indie-developer, take a look at this Gamasutra interview with Andrew Gower, creator of the most popular MMO in the world, Runescape. It may not make as much money as the big-name AAA MMOs, but there are more people playing the game than any other MMO.
